As a media intern for See Stories, I produced a short film about ANILCA and subsistence culture in Alaska. The film will investigate the impact that ANILCA and subsistence practices (hunting, fishing, and gathering) have on the subsistence way of life in Alaska and on the identities and traditions of Alaska Native people. The purpose of this project is to take complex federal policy and illustrate the real-life implications for people in Alaska who maintain this way of life, passing their practices on for generations. This project was a chance to experiment with storytelling as media, in a thoughtful and responsible way.
